About The Event
In a circular dated September 9, 2026, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) announced that all Higher National Diploma (HND) admissions in polytechnics, allied institutions, colleges of nursing sciences and health technology will now be handled by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). For institutions like Uyo City Polytechnic, which offers HND programmes alongside its National Diploma courses, this marks a significant change in how new students are admitted.
The NBTE said the move is aimed at a centralised admission process that curbs “illegal and compromised admissions”. It also expects to develop HND Admission Guidelines for JAMB’s digital admission platform, with the Committee of Heads of Nigerian Polytechnics and Similar Institutions providing input. The integration is meant to ensure admissions are granted only for accredited programmes and within approved carrying capacities.
For students, the practical effect is that polytechnics will no longer handle HND admissions independently. Prospective candidates should watch for the guidelines the NBTE is expected to release explaining how the new process will work.
